Condoms are made from latex, which is a natural rubber. It can also be found in tires, seals, hoses, adhesives, etc… Among its essential properties are high elasticity, durability, resistance to fungi and other microorganisms, low weight and low permanent deformation.
Cheeks flushed with blush, shy smiles or even upset. I met all of this in your faces when you found out that most of our kits also include a condom. In the following article, let me show you the incredible range of possibilities of what can be done with this amazing invention.
1. Water container
Thanks to its incredible flexibility, you can easily use the condom as an emergency bag for water or other liquid. Just be careful! When the volume of the rod increases, the resistance decreases. Therefore, it is a good idea to place it in a sock, to prevent accidental tearing.
2. Emergency glove
In an emergency, a condom can be used as a glove when dealing with any first aid issues. It will prevent dirt from your hands from contaminating the wound. It is also advisable to use them if you are dealing with an unknown person.
3. Waterproof packaging
A flexible condom can be used as a waterproof package for e.g. electronics (telephones, etc.).
4. Throttle
You can use the condom as an emergency pressure bandage for bleeding wounds, e.g. with a piece of gauze and an elastic bandage. If you don’t have gauze, simply roll up a piece of fabric.
Fixation of fractures
For example, making a finger splint with a condom is quite easy, you only need a twig to immobilize the finger and then twist the condom over the broken finger and the side finger.
Other uses
The condom can also be used as a rubber band – just cut it into strips. A cooling compress – ice or cold water in a condom can work wonders. Of course, you can also make a warm compress out of it. The condom can withstand boiling, so if you dare, you can place a suitable dish in it and, for example, cook in an eshu. It certainly won’t taste like Jamie Oliver’s, but you will certainly remember it for a long time. 🙂 It can also be used as a slingshot elastic. If you inflate it with feeling, like an emergency pillow. You can even start a fire with a condom – after filling it with water, it becomes a magnifying glass. This takes some practice though. If you go into the water and have a patch on your hand that you don’t want to get wet, just cut off the tip of the condom and stretch it over your hand. Emergency sealing – for example, in a car, it can provide a short-term (e.g. with Duct tape) sealing of a pipe.
Last but not least, the purpose of a condom is to prevent pregnancy (barrier contraceptive) and at the same time to prevent the transmission of sexually transmitted infections including HIV and hepatitis B and C. We live in the 21st century and I think condoms should not be taboo.
In conclusion
One could certainly think of many other uses. If you can think of any, share them in the comments! The condom is therefore an integral part of almost all our kits.
